Our Story

Understanding the whole person, not just the problem

At Midlands Psychology, we have always believed that supporting children and young people means looking beyond a diagnosis or a single difficulty.

Where we live, learn, build relationships and take part in our communities all play an important role in our wellbeing.

This belief has shaped our work since Midlands Psychology began in 2009 — and it continues to guide us today through EduTherapy.

Therapist and Client

Where it all began

Midlands Psychology was established in 2009 with a simple aim: to find better, more person-centred ways of supporting psychological health and emotional wellbeing.

From the beginning, we wanted to do things differently.

We recognised that people are individuals, and that effective support needs to reflect their circumstances, strengths, relationships and communities.

Over the years, our work has developed and evolved. One thing has remained constant:

We believe that meaningful change happens when people feel understood, supported and able to take part in the world around them.

Our Vision

Child Questioning Interaction

Our focus today - The young person comes first.

Today, this philosophy is at the heart of EduTherapy.

EduTherapy brings together education, psychology and therapeutic approaches to support children and young people who may be finding traditional education difficult to access.

We don't believe that there is one way to learn, or one path that works for every young person.

Instead, we take time to understand the individual and create opportunities for them to learn, develop and build confidence in ways that work for them.

This might mean learning through their interests, taking a more practical approach, gradually building confidence in new environments or supporting their emotional wellbeing alongside their education.

Individuality

Every child and young person is different. We look at their strengths, interests, needs and experiences rather than trying to fit them into a standard approach.

What matters to us

Relationships

Positive, trusting relationships are at the heart of meaningful support. We take time to listen, understand and build connections with young people and their families.

Inclusion

Everyone should have opportunities to learn, participate and feel that they belong. We look for ways to remove barriers and make education more accessible.

Community

Wellbeing doesn't exist in isolation. Families, schools, communities and relationships all have a part to play. We achieve the most progress when we work together as one community.

Looking forward

Our story continues to evolve.

What started as a belief in doing things differently has grown into a focused approach to helping children and young people access learning in ways that recognise who they are, what they need and what they can achieve.

Through EduTherapy, we continue to put relationships, individuality, wellbeing and participation at the centre of what we do.

Because education doesn't have to look the same for everyone.
